What Else Can We Say

If you've visited SJR in the last few days, you've been greeted with a blank blog, flanked by Tom Delay's mugshot — but what else can we add?

For several years, it has been up to the left wing blogs to ferret out and distribute reality-based information to counter the blaring propaganda machine serving our Culture of Corruption. Now, the tide is turning. We don't need to close up shop, but right now, there's not much more to do than sit back and watch the Republican train wreck.

Earlier today, I was browsing Free Republic, looking for lies to respond to. Oh, there were plenty, but they were tinfoil-hat quality rantings, for the most part. The newest topic, the so-called "Scalito" nomination, had provided occaision for two different calls to "Freep this poll." Freepers try to affect web polls by flocking to them. In the past, they've managed to succeed in making the non-scientific web polls skew significantly right of the general population. Not anymore.

The CNN Poll shows twice as many people opposing Alito as supporting him. If the polled was "Freeped," it didn't affect that score over the few hours I followed it.

The MSNBC Poll has actually gone from 64/36 against to 65/35 against as I've watched it.

The word "Freep," to me, has always sounded like it should be "creep (as in creepy person) with little substance." I guess it finally does. It's too early to declare victory, but there is cause for hope that the more dire predictions about America may not hold.

Vindicated, Part II

The EPA lists my and my wife's cars as the third and fourth most fuel efficient vehicles in a new report that is receiving a lot of attention in this new energy crisis state.

Diesel-powered cars from Volkswagen took the top spots in the "compact" and "sub-compact" car categories. The diesel VW Beetle with manual transmission is the most efficient sub-compact and the VW Golf diesel, which is built on the same vehicle structure as the Beetle, is the most efficient compact. Both get an estimated 44 mpg on the highway and 37 in the city.

The Beetle and Golf tied for third in overall mileage rankings.

Bosney's Honda Insight and my father's Toyota Prius fill out the #1 and #2 slots. In your face, Hummer.

And Now For Something Completely Different...

Driftglass is one of my favorite bloggers. Generally lefty topically, clever turns of phrase and witticisms, a good eye for detail.

But this stuff left me gasping for air. If you're like me, brain cells sufficiently steeped in Monty Python material that you can quote chapter 'n verse, you'll probably have the same response. Go, read.

The GOP Cheese Shop.

The Norwegian Blue Justice.
